Artist Statement

Since an early age I have had a fascination concerning hair. I enjoy the touch and the feel of hair. For me, hair stands for comfort. I use my own identity and recollections of my mother and the detachment from my parents as sources for my art. Memories are significant aspects and therefore sources of inspiration for my work.

Another reason why I am captivated by hair is the explanation that many people are repulsed and obsessed by it. Other peoples and my particular obsession with hair growth fascinate me. I am interested in conflicting emotions of desire and repulsion, fear and fascination.

The whole working process interests and inspires me. Many of my ideas come from working with specific materials or objects; the concept will describe itself within the materials. I like to experiment with different possibilities to solve tasks. Repetition is another important aspect of my work. In recent work I have used hair as a medium to produce work concerning vanity, and the ideals women possess.

I am engaging memories from my childhood and hair to express my identity.
